5 star restoration of an hilariously irreverent and silly comedy.

Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy is a 2004 American satirical comedy film, written by Will Ferrell (Strays, Daddy’s Home 2), who also stars and Adam McKay (The Big Short, Don’t Look Up), who made his fantastic directorial debut with this inspired comedy.

It is presented here on 4K UHD for the first time in the 20th Anniversary ‘Stay Classy’ Edition, with lots of special features and extra goodies, courtesy of Paramount Home Entertainment.

“I’m very important. I have many leather-bound books and my apartment smells of rich mahogany.”

It’s the 1970’s and in the era before cable television, it was all about the local news anchor. In this case, that means local San Diego station KVWN and the Channel 4 News Team, headed up by the popular Ron Burgundy (Will Ferrell). Alongside his trusty team, lead field reporter Brian Fontana (Paul Rudd – Ant Man, Ghostbusters: Afterlife), sports reporter Champ Kind (David Koechner – Ganymede, The Allnighter) and top weatherman Brick Tamland (Steve Carell – Asteroid City, Beautiful Boy), they are the top rated news team in the city.

All is well in this male dominated newsroom until station director Ed Harken (Fred Willard – A Mighty Wind, Best in Show) is forced to hire a woman to satisfy a workplace requirement. That woman is the beautiful and ambitious Veronica Corningstone (Christina ApplegateBad Moms, Vacation), whose goal it is to become the first female anchor.

Although they hit it off initially, the testosterone fuelled news team simply can’t cope with the presence of a woman in their midst and matters soon spiral out of control, with hilarious and sometimes cringeworthy consequences.

“It is anchorman, not anchorlady! And that is a scientific fact!”

Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy is a truly hilarious film which has stood the test of time and if anything, in this age of political correctness gone mad, it is even funnier than on it’s original release, a breath of fresh air.

It looks fantastic following the restoration and it sounds great too. There are lots of excellent special features and extra goodies included with this release, including feature film Wake Up Ron Burgundy: The Lost Movie featuring deleted scenes and a different storyline, as well as bloopers and commentaries.

An excellent box set, everything Ron Burgundy related that you could hope for, with a theatrical poster, art cards, character cards, Ron Burgundy’s notebook and a Channel 4 sticker, well worth adding to your collection.

“I’m gonna punch you in the ovary, that’s what I’m gonna do. A straight shot. Right to the baby maker.”

Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy 20th Anniversary ‘Stay Classy’ Edition is available on 4K UHD from 5th August 2024.
