BARB WIRE 4K COLLECTABLE STEELBOOK Review***--

Cert 18 | 98 mins | 1995

3 Star

It’s all in the Eyes.

It’s Cult Classic time as we fly back to 1996s dystopian look at future America. Directed by David Hogan (Batman Forever, (Second Unit or Assistant Director), Alien³ (Second Unit or Assistant Director)), who takes Pamela Anderson (Lee) (Baywatch (TV Series), Home Improvement (TV Series)) at the height of her popularity, in this “Lad’s Mag” sci-fi cult flick. Now in 4K this will appeal to those of a certain age, and it will appeal to a whole new sci-fi audience.

In 1996, 2017 seemed so far away, that anything could happen and it did, ‘The second American Civil War’. Where a new tyrannical (The Nazis) group called the “Congressional Directorate” has taken over and every city is under Martial Law except one, Steel Harbour and our tale takes place there.

It’s a lawless place where supporters of the Congress and those opposed to it mix, and the place they do it is the ‘Hammerhead’, a bar-nightclub where you can get good alcohol and good music. It is run by ex-freedom fighter Barbara “Barb Wire” Kopetski (Pamela Anderson), along with the waiter Curly (Udo Kier, Puppet Master: The Littlest Reich, Iron Sky: The Coming Race). To supplement her takings, Barb becomes a bounty hunter, finding those that have jumped bail, whatever their political views.

If one more person calls me Babe…

The Congressional Directorate are after a Dr. Corrina ‘Cora D’ Devonshire (Victoria Rowell, Dumb and Dumber, Diagnosis Murder (TV Series)) a former government scientist with information about a new bioweapon called ‘Red Ribbon’. She and her resistance bodyguard Axel (Temuera Morrison, Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, The Mandalorian). The person charged with finding her is the jackbooted Colonel Victor Pryzer (Steve Railsback, Lifeforce, The Stunt Man), he has to catch her before she gets across the border, the problem he has is that she has undergone plastic surgery, but the retina scan will find her out. That is her problem, but there is a solution.

You’re looking very buoyant this evening

There are contact lenses that have been smuggled in from Germany which can fool any retina scan and they are worth a fortune on the Black Market.

The race is on, the Congress wants the Dr and the lenses, the Dr wants the lenses, and Barb wants a million Canadian dollars so she can get away.

This burnt-out hellhole is the last place I want to be!

It may have been panned by the critics, and bombed at the box-office, but it’s still here and now looks better than ever. The poor man’s ‘Casablanca’.

I don’t take sides.

Does this constitute an emergency? Yes!!!
