The Wolf of Wall Street [UHD] Limited Edition Review

4 star glorious restoration of an American classic.

The Wolf of Wall Street is an American true life drama based on the incredible antics of stock broker Jordan Belfort. Originally released in 2013, it features a screenplay by Terence Winter (The Sopranos, Boardwalk Empire) and was directed by the legend that is Martin Scorsese (Hugo, The Aviator).

Jordan Belfort (Leonardo DiCaprio – Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, Blood Diamond) arrives on Wall Street aged 22 years old, full of ambition and enthusiasm for making money. He finds a position as a ‘connector’ at a brokerage firm and sets to learning the ropes from his experienced and somewhat vulgar supervisor Mark Hanna (Matthew McConaughey – Interstellar, The Lincoln Lawyer).  Things are great and he becomes a licensed broker, but then comes Black Monday, October 19th, 1987, and the firm is forced to close.

He is struggling to find himself a job, when his wife Teresa (Cristin Milioti – Palm Springs) points out a job in Long Island. It’s only pink sheets, dealing in penny stocks, but Jordan has an idea. With new partner Donny (Jonah Hill – War Dogs, 21 Jump Street) he sets up a team of ruthless (if a little clueless) brokers who soon begin to rake in the money. It’s a wild ride of sex, drugs and cash and this is when he meets his next wife, Naomi (Margot Robbie – Suicide Squad, Dreamland).

His life seems to be on the up, but with his drug habit spiralling out of control and Federal Agent Patrick Denham (Kyle Chandler – Super 8, King Kong) breathing down his neck, there’s really only one way things can go.

“If you sell $10,000 worth of those stocks, I will personally give you a blow job for free. And I hope it happens.”

The Wolf of Wall Street is a bonkers rollercoaster of drugs, debauchery and greed, which pretty much sums up the era in which it is set. Leonardo DiCaprio is magnificent as ever and puts in an absolute powerhouse performance.

With an all star cast, there are some great turns from people such as Jon Bernthal (The Walking Dead, Baby Driver), Joanna Lumley (Paddington 2, Finding Your Feet) and Jon Favreau (Chef, Spiderman: Homecoming), as well as many others.

This brilliant film has been gloriously remastered in 4K and looks sparkling and new and with a host of special features, this Limited Edition release is well worth adding to your collection, or as a Christmas gift for a film fanatic friend or family member.
