4 stars for this well written and exciting story.
The Last Naruto Movie is the tenth Naruto film and was made to commemorate the 15th anniversary of the franchise.
Stepping away from the existing Naruto Shippuden timeline in the UK, which sees us just reaching the beginning of the Fourth Shinobi World War, The Last Naruto Movie is set two years after the end of the war. For those watching the UK releases, this is slightly disconcerting as everyone looks so much older.
It is now peace time and everyone is looking forward to the Rinne Festival. Naruto is now viewed as the town hero and is constantly showered with gifts and affection from the local girls. Hinata in particular is looking forward to the festival, as she has a very special gift for Naruto, a scarf that she has knitted to replace the one he lost while protecting her from bullies when they were much younger.
She intends to finally confess her feelings to him, but in usual style Naruto is quite oblivious to the feelings of those around him and once again she fails.
The peace of the village is suddenly shattered one day when, with the attempted kidnapping of Hinata and the abduction of her sister Hanabi by the mysterious Toneri. He vows to return for Hinata, who was saved only thanks to Naruto’s quick actions, and states that soon mankind will be destroyed.
Toneri has a fiendish plan which threatens the entire world, he intends to force the moon (created by Hagoromo Ōtsutsuki, the Sage of the Six Paths, to conceal the Demonic Statue of the Outer Path so that the ten tails could never be reborn) to head towards the Earth, causing it to break up and rain destruction upon all the humans.
Kakashi sends a crack team, Naruto, Hinata, Sakura, Sai, and Shikamaru to mount a rescue mission and attempt to stop the moon’s approach before any further damage can be done.
This is a great story, obviously a must see for any fans of the Naruto franchise and is very interesting. For me certainly, being so far behind, there were plenty of surprises not least the romantic developments which are extremely charming and quite a departure for Naruto.
Lovely animation style, great story, what’s not to love? This would grace any anime collection.
