4 Star
Magic, Mystery and Mayhem.
From director Jon M. Chu (Step Up 2: The Streets) and writer Ed Solomon (Men In Black, Now You See Me) comes the much anticipated sequel to the very original first film.
Set a year after the first film, the remaining four Horsemen J. Daniel Atlas (Jesse Eisenberg, The Social Network), Merritt McKinney (Woody Harrelson, The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1) and Jack Wilder (Dave Franco, Fright Night) are in hiding.
They are awaiting news from ‘The Eye’ the secret society of magicians they’ve been recruited into, but they have not been in touch for ages and being frustrated at doing nothing Atlas actively seeks out The Eye, what he finds is that there may be light at the end of the tunnel.
They may have fooled the FBI in the first film, but now their ‘handler’ agent Dylan Rhodes (Mark Ruffalo, Begin Again) has a new mission for the Four Horseman but as there is only three they recruit Lula (Lizzy Caplan, Cloverfield) to be added to the team.
The mark is businessman Owen Case (Ben Lamb, Divergent) who has developed a new software that secretly steals data. They have to acquire this technology, and at the launch they expect to achieve their goal, but as Hollywood does they throw a spanner in the works and they find out that Rhodes is a mole. He then has to escape.
As do the Horsemen, they use their travel tube but find that they have arrived at the wrong place as they are captured by Merritt’s twin brother. The Horsemen are then brought before Chase’s employer, technology prodigy Walter Mabry (Daniel Radcliffe, Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone).
Fugitive Rhodes rival Thaddeus Bradley (Morgan Freeman, Transcendence, The Dark Knight Rises) is inside prison and he needs him.
Watch as the Four Horseman have to do what they do and try to fool everyone else. A very good sequel, one of the hardest things to do. With old rivalries and those previously hated (Michael Cain, The Dark Knight Rises) this is a dynamic film for all to enjoy.
