4 star slice of life school comedy.
Love, Chunibyo & Other Delusions! Heart Throb is the second series, based on the light novel by Torako and directed by Tatsuya Ishihara (Clannad).
“Chuunibyou (中二病) is a derrogative colloquial term in the Japanese language used to describe a person which manifests delusional behavior, particularly thinking that one has special powers that no other person has.”

It’s the start of a new school year and Yuuta Togashi (Leraldo Anzaldua – Chaika: The Coffin Princess) is trying to leave behind his chunibyo life and become a normal student. His efforts aren’t helped however by his girlfriend Rikka (Margaret McDonald – Samurai Bride), who is still firmly in it’s grip.
She believes herself to be the “Eye of the Wicked Lord” able to banish people from this realm at will. Due to a mix up, her flat is no longer available and so she is forced to move in with Yuuta, much to the amusement of all their friends.
Their school club, the Far Eastern Magic Society, is still up and running, but the other members seem to be moving on. Although she still has chuunibyou, Sanae (Brittney Karbowski – Show by Rock!) is now class representative, and Shinka (Maggie Flecknoe – Akame ga Kill!) has decided to leave it all behind and run for Student Council.
As if his life wasn’t already difficult enough, everything becomes infinitely more complicated with the arrival of his ex girlfriend, Satone (Christina Kelly – Brynhildr in the Darkness), also known as Sophia Ring Saturn VII, who was the cause of his chuunibyou at Middle School and wants to bring back the “Dark Flame Master.” Rikka is immediately jealous and the two embark on a feud.
Love, Chunibyo & Other Delusions! Heart Throb is an an entertaining watch, with lots of laughs, but just as likely to make you cry too. The storyline isn’t particularly exciting, but it’s cute enough and just about spot on for the sort of age group that it’s aimed at. My only real complaint would be that the voices are just so annoying they begin to grate on the nerves after a while, but if you can put up with that then you should enjoy this wacky tale of magical girls and boys.
