4 Star
Treasures, Cars, Kung Fu and a Lion.
Writer/director Jackie Chan (First Strike) and favourite Stanley Tong (Supercop) brings us his next collaboration with the elder statesman of martial arts films. Jackie comes with two new protege’s as we see the fights and stunts along with amazing car chases and the ever brilliant comedy.
1300 years ago two countries (China, India) fought, heroes were made, the story of their escapades passes into legend and the story of their disappearance also becomes a thing of mystery.
Present day China and Jack (Jackie Chan, Police Story: Lockdown, Drunken Mastrer) is the foremost leading archaeologist working on the Terracotta Warriors Museum in Xi’an and using non-invasive techniques to show the real colours of the armour the army was wearing before they were buried.
Jack is introduced to professor Ashmita (Disha Patani, M.S. Dhoni: The Untold Story) from the National Museum Institute of India. She is searching for artefacts from the fabled stories of treasure and has a map that has passed down through her family for a thousand years and wants to use his new techniques to read the old map to get to Rajasthan to locate India’s lost Magadha treasure in Tibet.
Jack visits his treasure hunting nephew Jones (Aarif Rahman, Young Bruce Lee) along with his two assistants Xiaoguang (Yixing Zhang, Ex-Files 2: The Backup Strikes Back) and Nuomin (Muqi Miya, Tomb Robber). Jones is reluctant at first but is soon brought round to Jack’s way of thinking.
Following the clues the team manage to find the location of the lost warriors of old but cannot get to it safely, so Jack calls in a favour from a mining friend of his and they manage to cut a big plug in the ice to get to the ice caves deep under the ice surface.
Deep in the ice the intrepid archaeologists and treasure hunter find the last resting place of the ancient warriors and the treasure they were carrying, Ashmita seems to know what she needs to rescue while the others look at what they have discovered. Meanwhile above, ice mercenaries swarm in on skidoos as Randall’s (Sonu Sood, Happy New Year) team head down to claim the treasure for himself.
In the ensuing scuffle (Jackie showing his trademark skills as well as Jones and Xiaoguang and the ladies showing off their yoga skills) Jones makes off with a valuable artefact and manages to escape the hole before Randall has all the others tied up and left to die of the cold like the ancient warriors before them.
But Jack and Ashmita are resourceful and manage to escape before raising the alarm to help the others. Later they find that the diamond is up for auction in Dubai.
Let the fun and intrigue begin.
A great yarn from the master of slapstick martial arts.
This is a must for any Jackie Chan fans, it has it all. Martial arts, Yoga, amazing car chases and a lion.
