3 Star
Drugs, Cops and a Farmer.
Young prolific screenwriter, producer, director James Cullen Bressack (Beyond the Law, Blood Craft) teams up with first time feature writer Ross Peacock for this out in the sticks’ survival film. Where long time cop and his partner finally catch up with their quarry.
For the first time in years, cops David (Bruce Willis, LOOPER, Anti-Life, 16 Blocks) and Cal (Swen Temmel, Hard Kill, 10 Minutes Gone) find the warehouse where Frank (Michael Sirow, Fortress, Out of Death) Mikey and Violet (Kate Katzman, The Comeback Trail, A Christmas Carol) stash their drugs, and now it’s bust time. Problem is that Cal is a little clumsy, alerting the bad guys. An exchange of lead leads to David being hit as Cal gives chase to the fleeing Mikey and Violet.
They all end up at a farm owned by Eric (Chad Michael Murray, Riverdale (TV Series), Agent Carter (TV Series)) where we see that he is an army vet, and he has also suffered a recent bereavement. As Eric lies on his bed with his headphones on, he reminisces the loss of his wife and daughter, as he takes another swig from his hip-flask. He is unaware what is heading his way.
The baddies and Cal end up in Eric’s house, where a fight ensues and Cal manages to get a hold of Violet. Eric eventually hears the fight going on in his house, but he soon becomes the centre of a Mexican stand-off, as his own shotgun is taken off him by Mikey.
Eventually, Violet and Mikey are reunited as Cal and Eric make a break for freedom, but Cal takes a hit from the shotgun as they flee. Once undercover, Cal tries to call the shots with Eric, but it doesn’t wash as this is his farm. It makes sense that Eric go to town as he knows the lay of the land, but as he wades through the tall grasses he spots two cars headed for his house. It is Frank with his goons, and he wants this situation resolved, as they have the shot David in the back of the car. Cal had thought that David had died at the warehouse, now he has to save his partner and put these drug dealers behind bars.
