3 star Easter fun for the whole family.

Rabbit Academy is a 2022 German animation originally titled Die Häschenschule. Written by Katja Grübel (Raven the Little Rascal)and and directed by Ute von Münchow-Pohl (A Piece of Cake), it is now showing in UK cinemas nationwide courtesy of Signature Entertainment.

“How will we ever become Easter foxes if you just let these city rabbits hop all over you?”

Every year the Rabbit Academy selects four Master Rabbits to protect the Easter Rabbits while they hide Easter Eggs for the children. The selection is carried out by the Golden Egg, which also provides them with their magical powers. Presided over by Madame Hermione (Karen Ardiff) and Mr. Fritz (Brendan McDonald), this is an important occasion.

This year the selections are Andy (Eoin Daly), Louise (Susie Power), Emmy (Lucy Carolan) and very surprisingly, Max (Callum Maloney) the City Rabbit. Formerly trained at the Academy, Max now lives in the city but is excited to be chosen. After a run-in with the “Shockwave Rabbits”, who are trying to live stream a stunt, he accidentally makes off with the bike, angering their leader Leo (Cameron Simpson). He meets up with Emmy, but draws the attention of a group of foxes, barely making it back to the Academy.

As the Master Rabbits train, the chickens atop Chicken Mountain, led by Gerda, have produced this years eggs and are sending them down the mountain for painting.

Meanwhile the foxes are still plotting. Mother Ruth (Mary Murray) and her sons Bruno, Louis (Luke Griffin) and Ferdinand (Jonas Elkhawad) want nothing more than to become Easter Foxes, so that they may give out eggs in place of the rabbits. They also quite enjoy rabbit stew of course. A chance encounter leads to Leo teaming up with the foxes and the unthinkable happens, the Golden Egg turns black. It’s up to our young rabbits to save Easter.

Rabbit Academy: Mission Eggpossible is a entertaining film, released just in time for Easter. While it will never take the world by storm it’s a good story, if a little odd and the characters are likeable enough.

The animation style is lovely, brightly coloured and well detailed and it features a catchy them song which youngsters will probably enjoy singing along with. With it’s bright sunshine and messages of friendship and teamwork it’s the ideal trip out with your little ones to counteract the spring snow.

Colourful, wholesome and worth a trip out, this is a fun way to spend an afternoon.
