3 star cautionary Christmas horror tale.

The Leech is a 2022 American comedy/horror film written and directed by Eric Pennyhoff (Sadistic Intentions)

It is presented here in on Special Edition Blu-ray in 1080p courtesy of Arrow Video from 5th December 2022.

“When we help others, we bring them face to face with God, by bringing them face to face with us.”

Father David (Graham Skipper – Bliss, Christmas, Bloody Christmas) is a Catholic priest, who is struggling to maintain a congregation. With numbers at a record low, he is preaching about helping those in need in the run up to Christmas, watched by Rigo (Rigo Garay – Crumb Catcher) a young man who he took under his wing.

After the sermon, he finds a man, Terry (Jeremy GardnerAfter Midnight, The Battery) sleeping in one of the pews and asks him to leave. He does, but David then offers to drive him to his girlfriend’s house, only to discover he has been kicked out. Deciding to follow his own teachings, he offers to let him stay with him for the night. He soon begins to wonder if this was a good idea, he has no respect, smokes inside, drinks heavily and listens to very loud music.

Things go further downhill with the arrival of Terry’s girlfriend Lexi (Taylor Zaudtke – Fingers), also wanting to stay there, who David believes came to the church to confess that she was pregnant.

He agrees to let them stay over Christmas on the condition that they open themselves to God, but will that be the case and can his faith survive this ultimate test?

The Leech is a wild ride of a watch, relentlessly intense and pretty disturbing. It’s not hard to imagine how something like this could happen, a simple act of kindness changing your life forever.

The acting is good, very believable and it’s a good idea for a story. It is a little dark, but it all adds to the atmosohere and David’s descent into sin is fascinating to see. This sort of naughty festive horror treat is just the thing for this time of year and a nice alternative to all the sickly sweet offerings out there.

Horror fans will be very happy to find this dark comedy in their stocking this Christmas.

“Let go and Let God. If  you’re willing to open yourselves to him, I’m willing to open my doors to you.”

The leech is available now on Special Edition Blu-ray.
