Surf’s Up

From Icon Film Distribution comes the 1991 cult surfing-crime film, directed by Kathryn Bigelow (The Hurt Locker, Strange Days) who bring the thrills and spills of this adrenalin fuelled crime caper, and with the 4K you can almost feel the spray from the surf. Point Break, Great Action, Great Characters, Cult Classic.

The surf is good and the sun is coming up as Bodhi (Patrick Swayze, Road House, Dirty Dancing, Ghost) takes to the waves. Meanwhile, Johnny Utah (Keanu Reeves, John Wick Chapter 4, John Wick Chapter 2, Johnny Mnemonic 25TH ANNIVERSARY) completes his FBI training, before being assigned to the LA office, bank robbery division, led by Ben Harp (John C. McGinle, Platoon, Seven).

You’re a real blue flame special, aren’t you, son? Young, dumb and full of come, I know. What I don’t know is how you got assigned here. Guess we must just have ourselves an asshole shortage, huh?

… Not so far.

Experienced Special Agent Angelo Pappas (Gary Busey, Lethal Weapon, Under Siege) has been saddled with the green-horn. LA is the bank robbery capital of the USA, and at the moment the main problem is the “Ex-Presidents” gang (Ronald Reagan, Jimmy Carter, Richard Nixon, and Lyndon B. Johnson.), who unlike other robbers only take money from the tills, rather than the vaults, so they are in and out in ninety seconds.

Pappas believes the perpetrators are surfers and Utah volunteers to infiltrate the surfers where he meets Tyler (Lori Petty, Tank Girl, Free Willy), who introduces him to Bodhi’s friends Roach (James Le Gros, Drugstore Cowboy, Certain Women), Grommet (Bojesse Christopher, True Detective (TV Series), NCIS: Los Angeles (TV Series)), and Nathaniel (John Philbin, Children of the Corn, The Return of the Living Dead).

Utah now gets involved with Tyler as he learns to surf with the free spirit that is Bodhi. From now on, Utah is in for a rollercoaster ride, as he infiltrates the gang and finds out more about their activities. Sun, sea and ex-presidents.

All the cast were at the top of their game in 1991. A must-see action film. Plenty of bangs for your bucks. An awesome action film.

Fear causes hesitation, and hesitation will cause your worst fears to come true.
