4 Star
Saving the Future From the Past.
The future of Star Trek is in the safe hands of creators Kirsten Beyer (Star Trek: Discovery (TV Series), Star Trek: Strange New Worlds), Michael Chabon (Spider-Man 2, Star Trek: Short Treks (TV Series short)), and Akiva Goldsman (A Beautiful Mind, Fringe (TV Series)), as they bring us season two of the follow on to TNG and the associated films. As the characters assemble, the fate of the past and the future are at stake. A real treat for Star Trek fans.
It is 2401 and Jean-Luc Picard (Sir Patrick Stewart, Green Room, Spark, Star Trek: Picard S1) is completing the last day of harvest on his vineyard, along with his Romulan housekeeper Laris (Orla Brady, The Other Me, The Foreigner), who tries to break Jean-Luc’s hundred years of solitude, he is all about duty not matters of the heart.
I’m too old, too old for awkward.
Retired Admiral Picard is now chancellor to the Starfleet Academy, and he gives a speech to the new graduates as they are assigned their new ships, including former ward Elnor (Evan Evagora, Fantasy Island) who is off to USS Excelsior (NCC-2000) along with Raffi (Michelle Hurd, Blindspot (TV Series), I Spit on Your Grave 3: Vengeance is Mine). Jean-Luc visits the one person that understands him, Guinan (Whoopi Goldberg, Sister Act, The Color Purple).
Captain Chris Rios (Santiago Cabrera, Transformers: The Last Knight, Outlaws) and Dr. Agnes Jurati (Alison Pill, Goon: Last of the Enforcers, Snowpiercer) of the USS Stargazer (NCC82893) are investigating a strange anomaly that is transmitting a strange signal. Meanwhile, Seven of Nine (Jeri Ryan, Dracula 2001, Against the Wild 2: Survive the Serengeti) is doing her thing as a vigilante flying Rios’s old ship La Sirena. Dr Jurati manages to clear up the Borg signal, which triggers an end to Picard’s retirement.
Help us Picard.
The Borg want to join the Federation, and they will only talk to Picard. He joins the crew of the Stargazer, which was built using Borg technology. When it is confirmed the Admiral is present, the Borg Queen (Annie Wersching, 24 (TV Series), Runaways (TV Series)) beams aboard and immediately starts to take over the Stargazer and the rest of the assembled fleet. With the assimilation reaching 90% Picard has no choice but to order the self-destruction of the Stargazer, to destroy the Borg.
The Borg consume, they assimilate. They don’t ask to be assimilated.
Victory through any means necessary, and in the absence of strength, deception.
Death is usually final, but not when Q (John de Lancie, Crank 2: High Voltage, Manipulated) intervenes.
I am but a suture in the wound.
Picard and his close friends find themselves in an altered timeline where Humans rule by force. Q has altered the past, and it is down to Picard’s team to set the timeline straight. There may be trouble a head, (Borg Queen joke).
Definitely one for the fans of the Star Trek universe.
