5 stars, a beautiful slice of serenity.
Maybe Forever is a 2024 Independent film, written and directed by George Capacete and Ruby Capacete, who also star.
This film is based on the romantic journey of the film makers, a husband and wife team giving a gentle and deeply moving account of them finally discovering their destiny, together.
“Sometimes, we take the unluckiest of routes, to arrive at our sublime freedom…”
As the film opens, we see and hear a couple, reminiscing about the beginning of their relationship. Back in time, we follow a day in the life of the couple, Sofia (Ruby Capacete – Ambrosio) and Greg (George Capacete – State of Desolation). They take a leisurely trip around their home city of Los Angeles, stopping to enjoy a good cup of coffee and discuss their burgeoning relationship.
They visit each other’s favourite spots and learn what is so important about them, while they continue to enjoy the feeling of skin against skin and speaking heart to heart.
“We arrive at our precursor to eternity. Our paradise. Our heaven.”
Maybe Forever is an incredibly moving and intimate portrayal of a couple realizing they have finally found the person they were always searching for. Despite the sensual nature of some of the shots, it never feels voyeuristic, rather just a celebration of love and the chemistry is extraordinary.
Despite it’s micro budget, nothing about this film feels cheap. Clever filming and an expertly chosen and very relaxing soundtrack allow us to sit back and see the city through the eyes of these new lovers. At 71 minutes, it is quite a short film, but it feels just exactly the length it needs to be.
Amidst the chaos of the world at the moment, this film reminds and inspires us to open our eyes, look at our surroundings and remember there is beauty to be found in everything. An uplifting and surprisingly powerful film and well worth a watch.
“Sometime during college, I realised the more I simplified things, the more satisfying it was.”
