5 stars of swashbuckling on the Sabaody Archipelago.
One Piece is a long running anime based on the serial in Weekly Shōnen Jump magazine written and illustrated by Eiichiro Oda and telling us of the adventures of Monkey D. Luffy and the rest of his crew, the “Straw Hat Pirates”. It is directed by Kônosuke Uda and produced by Toei Television Production (Dragonball Kai).
This collection is Season 7 Voyage 2 and comprises episodes 397 – 421. It concludes the Sabaody Archipelago Arc and introduces the Amazon Lily Arc. The usual spoiler alert applies here, we’re well into the story so don’t read on if you’re planning to watch the previous installments.
“I don’t wanna rule anything. Being King of the Pirates is about being more free than anyone.”
The Straw Hat’s search for a coating mechanic to prepare the Thousand Sunny for the trip to Fishman Island has lead them to Sabaody Archipelago. Here one of their new friends Camie (Megan Shipman – Love Live! Sunshine!!) is kidnapped and they must save her from being sold into slavery.
In his usual style, Luffy (Colleen Clinkenbeard – Yurikuma Arashi) barges into the auction and punches a celestial dragon, causing all hell to break loose. The marines are summoned and they soon find themselves surrounded. This gives Luffy the opportunity to meet and see in action two other pirate captains, Eustass Kid (Justin Cook – Eden of the East) and Trafalgar Law (Matthew Mercer – Brothers Conflict).
They also meet the legendary Silvers Rayleigh (Bruce Carey – Appleseed XIII), former member of Gol D. Roger’s crew turned coating mechanic. Tensions escalate quickly with the arrival of Admiral Kizaru (Ray Hurd – Tokyo ESP) and several Pacifistas who look like and share powers with Bartholomew Kuma (Joel McDonald – No-Rin). When the warlord himself shows up and begins to make the Straw Hats disappear one by one, Luffy finds himself alone on the strange all female island of Amazon Lily.
This is a fabulous next instalment, full of the usual One Piece fun and adventure, but also with lots of revelations and new characters introduced. It all hints at exciting things to come! A must own for all One Piece fans.
“What lies ahead is a sea of death for those who think the One Piece is something to laugh at. Let’s meet again in the New World.”
