4 Star
High kicks in Skirts
Actor/director Hoi Mang (YES, MADAM! aka. POLICE ASSASSINS, Zu Warriors From the Magic Mountain) stars alongside female martial artist star of the time, the sensational Cynthia Rothrock (In Search of the Last Action Heroes, Honor and Glory). With her speed and agility, this film certainly entertains.
America is being flooded with counterfeit money, and now the FBI are investigating. They have followed the money trail to Hong Kong, and have their suspects, but all the evidence is circumstantial. The main suspect is newspaperman Ronny Dak (Ronny Yu, The Bride With White Hair, Fearless), he is suspected of using his newspaper printing facility to run off millions of dollars that are laundered at racetracks etc. There is only one candidate for the job of infiltrating the newspaper, Cindy (Cynthia Rothrock) the Hong Kong loving FBI agent.
Cindy is met at the airport by her long time friend Judy Yu (Elizabeth Lee, Hong Kong Corruptor, Deadly Deal) daughter of the prominent Prosecutor Yu (Roy Chiao, Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, Summer Snow). After a catchup, Cindy is ready for her interview at the press office. After an interview with Dak’s daughter, Miss Mo, she gets the job and is shown around the building by her new partner, where he points out the No-Go area, only the boss and senior editors are allowed in. There is a story breaking, a fire in a local building, and Cindy is sent to cover the story. During her photo taking, someone screams that her baby is trapped upstairs and Cindy springs into action when there is an explosion. Cindy is triumphant, jumping from the burning building as rival journalist Shorty (Hoi Mang) and his partner Turbo (Tai-Bo, Encounter of the Spooky Kind, Skinny Tiger and Fatty Dragon) think Cindy is one of the prostitutes that frequent that building.
Cindy’s partner turns out to be an undercover cop (Siu-Ho Chin, Fist of Legend, Tai Chi Master) whose superintendent Melvin Wong (Melvin Wong, Passion 1995, Tiger on the Beat 2) isn’t very impressed with her snooping around the newspaper’s no-go area and subsequently getting into fights.
We don’t need no female “Rambo’s” around here.
Cindy teams up with the determined Shorty to take down Dak and his counterfeit money empire. With plenty of high kicks from Cindy and the baddies, and the comedy between her and Shorty, this is a crowd pleaser, Lady Reporter… is one for all those Martial Arts fans and those who love British classic 1980’s cars. With plenty of Special Features, this Eureka Classic’s release has plenty to offer.
