4 Star
4K Evolution is in the Air.
What a way to come back with a bang, for this straight to video (Remember Them?) release back in 96. But a fan favourite deserves this 4K UHD release, as you get one-hundred minutes of pure monster fun. Directed by the original writer of Tremors, and some of the 80s-90s family favourite films, S.S. Wilson (Wild Wild West, Short Circuit). This is the start of the future for the Tremors franchise, so sit back and enjoy (or freak-out at the return of the Graboids).
Many years have passed since we first encountered the Graboids, Val McKee has moved away and married Rhonda LeBeck, with their exploits making them famous and wealthy. Val settled for the family life, unlike Earl Bassett (Fred Ward, The Right Stuff, Short Cuts) who squandered his in an ostrich ranch. Many miles away in an oil field in Chiapas, Mexico, workers are being eaten by strange underground monsters, so who do you call?
Earl is the only available man with any experience with these types of monsters. Oil field owner Carlos Ortega (Marcelo Tubert, G.I. Joe: Retaliation, Star Trek: The Next Generation (TV Series)) comes to Earl to plead with him to help and at first he refuses until Carlos’ cab driver Grady Hoover (Chris Gartin, Black Swan, Mother!) says that Carlos is willing to pay $50,000 for each Graboid killed. With this incentive, Earl and Grady team up to make a killing.
Soon the pair are in Mexico, where they meet geologist Kate Reilly (Helen Shaver, The Amityville Horror, Desert Hearts), her assistant Julio (Marco Hernandez, Riot, Red Surf), and a mechanic named Pedro (José Ramón Rosario, Mystic River, The Day After Tomorrow), all of whom are scientifically investigating the Graboids. Earl is even more enthused, when he finds out that Carlos will pay double for a live specimen.
The hunt is on, as Earl calls in fellow Graboid hunter Burt Gummer (Michael Gross, Tremors, Tremors (TV Series)), and all concerned are in for some deadly shocks, as the burrowing menaces turn the tables on the hunters. So prepare yourself for one-hundred minutes of fun and death.
