Wing Chun.

Eureka Classics have done it again by bringing us another martial arts classic release with these two films depicting the legendary Wing Chun master Leung Chang, (Wiki Link). These late seventies and early eighties films are all about the martial arts. Makes you want to learn Wing Chun.

Warriors Two, sees a grown up Leung Chan (Bryan Leung, Twinkle Twinkle Lucky Stars, The Close Encounters of Vampire) in the town of Fu Chen, where he plies his trade as the town’s doctor, he is also a revered Wing Chun master. The town is not at peace, as there are plans for a take-over. Mo (Hark-On Fung, Police Story, Zu: Warriors from the Magic Mountain) and his weaselly retainer are planning to run the town by getting rid of the chief, permantly.

But the bank’s cashier Hua (Casanova Wong, The Story of Drunken Master, Blow Up) overhears this and must do what he can to save the chief. He tells Fei Chun (Sammo Hung) who is Leung’s top student about the plot, and he persuades Leung to train him in Wing Chun.

Mo hires killers to execute his plan and Hua, Fei Chun, and Tsan’s niece split up to use specific Wing Chun styles against these killers, but there is a mix-up with the names and our heroes find that they have to quickly adapt to survive and save the town.

Prodigal Son shows how this Wing Chun legend came about, as we see the son of a wealthy family entering 0ver three hundred fights to protect the town and its inhabitants, he is Leung Chang (Biao Yuen, Project A, Millionaires Express). He thinks that he is the best at martial arts because he has two personal trainers, but he does not know that his servant Yee Tung-choi (Chan Lung, Odd Couple, Millionaires Express) has bribed every one of his opponents to lose the fights, so his ward does not get injured.

Three of his friends go to the Lok Fung Lin opera and one of them falls for the female lead, after the show he goes to try and have a date with Leung Yee-tai (Lam Ching-ying, Mr. Vampire, Winners & Sinners), but he pushes his luck and gets a beat-down by Yee-tai. Chang hears of this and goes to get retribution for his friend’s humiliation.

But Chang soon finds out that she is a he, and even his servant can’t stop Yee-tai showing Leung Chang the errors of his belief that he is the greatest fighter. This comes as a shock, but he soon realizes that it should be Leung Yee-tai that teaches him Wing Chun, but the master refuses to teach him. But Leung Chang is resourceful, he gets his father to buy the opera troupe and gives himself the job of stuntman and personal assistant to Yee-tai. He is still refused to be trained, even after another master Lord Ngai Fei (Frankie Chan, Police Pool of Blood, The Good, the Bad & the Beauty) challenges Yee-tai to compare notes, that leave his master suffering from his asthma. Unbeknownst to our heroes Ngai also has a protective father, which leads to our pair fleeing to the country, where they end up at Wong Wah-bo’s (Sammo Hung) farm. He lives there with his daughter, and she is the reason why Leung Chang, becomes a Wing Chun master.

The martial arts in these two films are very hard to surpass, a must for any Wing Chun/ martial arts fan. Especially now that they have been brought up to 2K presentation. The Master Sammo Hung shows off his skills in writing, directing and acting. Spellbinding action.
