5 Star
A Kraken Box-set
Arrow Video brings us When Titans Ruled The Earth, a limited edition 4K UHD box-set that will blow your sandals off. The 2010–2012 versions of the tale of the demigod Perseus (Sam Worthington, Nine Bullets, Last Night). Worthington, hot on the heels of his success in Avatar, must fight and defy the gods and defeat Titans in these two blockbusters. Directed by Louis Leterrier (The Transporter, The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance) and Jonathan Liebesman (Darkness Falls, Battle: Los Angeles), who get the most out of their star-studded cast. Sword and sandals at the ready.
The story of the gods is a tempestuous one, and when Zeus (Liam Neeson, Honest Thief, The Ice Road) takes a human lover and produces an offspring, the gods become jealous and mother and child are put in a coffin and thrown to their watery deaths. But, other gods are on Zeus’ side and steer fisherman Spyros (Pete Postlethwaite, Inception, The Usual Suspects) to the floating coffin, where he finds the infant, and the dead mother. Spyros raises the boy, Perseus, with his wife Marmara (Elizabeth McGovern, Once Upon a Time in America, Ordinary People).
Eighteen years later, Spyros and his family witness the destruction of a huge statue of Zeus, by soldiers from the city of Argos. Zeus’ brother Hades (Ralph Fiennes, Schindler’s List, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2) punishes the soldiers and Spyros’ family become victims of this revenge. Perseus is the only survivor, who ends up at the feet of Kepheus (Vincent Regan, 300, Snow White and the Huntsman) the king of Argos.
Where queen Cassiopeia makes a claim that puts her daughter Andromeda (Alexa Davalos, The Chronicles of Riddick, Defiance) and all of Argos in mortal danger, as Hades threatens to unleash the Kraken on their city unless Andromeda is sacrificed.
You may not want to be a god, Perseus, but after feats like yours, men will worship you. Be good to them. Be better than we were. And if you insist on continuing this mundane human existence, I won’t have you do it alone. You’re the son of Zeus, after all!
The scene is set for the adventures of the legend that was Perseus as he finds out his heritage and takes on the Gods and what the Gods fear. An epic venture that spans a decade of a hero’s life as he faces unbelievable dangers.
The stars align in the Kraken Box-set.
Films to watch over and over again, a must own, that’s the weekend sorted.
