Boom or Bust

Producer turned director Randall Emmett (The Irishman, End of Watch) brings us a cat-and-mouse heist story. A slow burner, but when you get into the film you can see where it is going, and you want to see how it turns out, thanks to the writing of Dipo Oseni (Duress) and Doug Richardson (Bad Boys, Die Hard 2).

Mason Goddard (John Travolta, The Fanatic, The Forger, Pulp Fiction) and Amelia Decker (Kristin Davis, Sex and the City (TV Series), Sex and the City) fly in their private jet to a private airfield where Mr. Perez (Bernard White, The Matrix Reloaded, Captain America: The Winter Soldier) is holding a swanky party, to sell more private jets to the rich. But Mason has other rich men toys, Perez’s collection of rare sports cars. He and his hidden in plain sight crew, Anton (Quavo, Bad Boys for Life (Soundtrack), Mile 22 (Soundtrack)) and Hector (Noel Gugliemi, Training Day, The Fast and the Furious) manage to steal cars with the help of tech queen Link (Natali Yura, The Princess Switch, Reprisal).

But as they make their getaway, there is too much heat too soon, and that’s because it turns out Amelia has been working undercover for the whole two years she has been with Mason. Mason, Anton and Hector manage to escape by the skin of their teeth, feeling betrayed, Mason disappears to lick his wounds.

That is until his brother Shawn Goddard (Lukas Haas, Inception, The Revenant) shows up, saying he has a job for Mason, but he isn’t interested. However, Shawn isn’t the sharpest tool in the box and he goes ahead with his plan using Anton and Hector. Shawn comes up against the cocksure manager, Mr Caras (Swen Temmel, Bandit, Boss Level)

Shawn’s problem is he doesn’t think things through like Mason and after Mason turns up to sort out his brother’s problem, they are surrounded by the police and S.W.A.T. Then F.B.I. negotiator Amelia Decker turns up.

How will Mason save his brother and his hide, and make a score?

Cash Out is well worth a watch, for the tension and the twisty plot moves in this enjoyable heist movie.
