“Let’s face it lads, it’s time to call it a day. The diary is empty, you boys aren’t getting any younger and it’s not the nineties any more.”

Wet Dreams are a group of middle aged male strippers, managed by “Double Dip” Deano (Liam Noble – Peep Show (TV Series)) and headed up by his brother Alan (Dean KilbeyFixed, Bermondsey Tales: Fall of the Roman Empire). After a disastrous gig involving a 12th birthday party, Deano has decided it’s time to call it a day, but Alan disagrees. He offers to take the business on, so that he, Neil (Perry BensonA Gangster’s Kiss, Sid and Nancy), Carly (David Alexander – Green Street Hooligans) and Ratboy (Mark Monero – In the Earth, Villain) can continue to perform and do the job they love.

Fending off disapproval from his daughter Daisy (Barbara Smith – Eastenders (TV Series)) and her friend Trish (Jade Johnson – World’s End (TV Series)) for his chosen profession, he sets about trying to find them a gig. He thinks he’s hit the jackpot when he’s offered a hen party in Essex, £800.00 each for one night’s work. They head off and soon find themselves at a seriously shady looking working man’s club.

After a somewhat aggressive greeting from Blind Brian (Steve Oram – Sightseers), they meet the organiser Joanne (Juliet Cowan – Back to Black) who is very excited about the whole thing and gives them a set of rules from the client. They are having a great time, but they soon realise something is wrong when they are rendered unconscious by the food in the green room and the client turns out to be a witch (Emma Stannard – Manfish), who wants to use their privates to raise an ancient witch from the dead. Can they find a way out of this situation, or could this really be their last gig?

“Never sneak up on an ex amateur darts player, son. It’ll only end in tears.”

Members Club is a very funny film, but it is aimed at quite a specific audience. If phallus jokes and toilet humour are your thing then you will find this hilarious because they are delivered extremely well and they are very plentiful. The acting is surprisingly good and it’s clear everyone is having a great time making this film.

It is certainly weighted more towards comedy than horror, so it might not satisfy die hard gore hounds, but there are lots of gruesome and some downright disgusting moments, mostly featuring a tongue that moves on it’s own, a missing eye and a whole lot of d**ks.

The special effects are actually excellent, especially the talking cheese and pineapple hedgehog (Alan FordAn American Werewolf in London, Cockneys vs. Zombies) and the location is nothing short of genius, there’s nothing creepier than a run down working man’s club in the dark. It’s no classic, but it is good fun (provided you’re not easily offended). Well worth a watch.

“I need you to lock up, then deal with the fat grunt sat outside in the van. After that, I don’t want to see you until dawn.”
