5 stars of zombie action aboard the Thriller Bark.
One Piece is a long running anime based on the serial in Weekly Shōnen Jump magazine written by Eiichiro Oda and telling us of the adventures of Monkey D. Luffy and the rest of his crew, the “Straw Hat Pirates”.
“I know he’s annoying, but he’s still dead…”
This collection comprises episodes 349 -372 and takes place during the Thriller Bark arc. The usual spoiler alert applies here, we’re well into the story so don’t read on if you’re planning to watch the previous installments.
Following the drama of Enies Lobby and now aboard their new ship, the Thousand Sunny, the Straw Hats have headed off for their next adventure.
After meeting up with a mysterious skeleton, fate has taken them to the strange island of Thriller Bark, which also unfortunately happens to be the stronghold of Gekko Moriah (Christopher Guerrero – The Empire of Corpses), one of the Seven Warlords of the Sea.
He has eaten a devil fruit and given himself the ability to steal and control other people’s shadows. He is able to take the shadow and place it into a zombie, rendering the original owner unable to go out in daylight.
The skeleton, Brook (Ian Sinclair – Free! Eternal Summer), known on Thriller Bark as the humming swordsman, turns out to have had his shadow stolen. He explains that the shadows are being used to make zombies, which have both the skills of the body when it was alive and those of the owner of the shadow.
The Straw Hats are faced with a huge problem, in addition to Zoro (Christopher Sabat – Tokyo Ghoul) and Sanji (Eric Vale – Noragami) losing their shadows, now Luffy (Colleen Clinkenbeard – Yurikuma Arashi) has lost his too, and his zombie is a formidable creature, once known as Oars, who they must defeat along with Gekko Moriah in order to regain their shadows before the sun rises.
This is yet another great storyline from our favourite pirate crew, with and excellent climax, lots of antics and happily a bit more comedy in this one following the harrowing events of the Water Seven Arc. Obviously a must own for One Piece fans!
“There’s a beautiful lady swordmaster with a bunch of meat!”
