5 star compilation of a vintage comedy genius.
For four decades Tommy Cooper was a familiar and welcome sight on televisions across the UK. He appeared in numerous TV shows and specials throughout his career and here Network have assembled every existing episode which was recorded for the regional independent television stations.
“Your plum tart is baked, go back to your business.”
This magnificent twelve disc collection begins in 1966, with the sole surviving epidsode of Cooperama, followed by Life with Cooper, a sketch show featuring a mixture of magic acts, stand up comedy and costume sketches. This show ran from 1966 to 1969, unfortunately some of series 3 has been lost.
Then we have Tommy Cooper, which ran from 1969 to 1971, followed by The Tommy Cooper Hour (Specials) a series of shows which ran from 1973 to 1975 and include a glorious Christmas special.
We then have all of the specials, including Cooper at Large and Tommy Cooper’s Guest Night and of course Cooper – Just Like That.
“What a lovely audience, I shall do the full act. I won’t cut anything at all.”
This is a wonderful collection which takes you back to a time when there were only three channels to choose from and your weekend viewing with Tommy Cooper was guaranteed to be hilarious.
His haphazard approach to presentation and his constant deliberate mistakes mean that he is funny from the moment he steps onto the stage. His brilliant magic tricks always seem to have gone wrong and then turn out to have worked anyway. Seeing all these performances assembled into one compilation is an absolute joy and makes you realize how much you have missed the famous fez.
Featuring lots of special guests too, including Richard Briers, Arthur Lowe, Warren Mitchell, June Whitfield, Patricia Hayes, Bernard Cribbins, Patrick Cargill, Michael Bentine, Thora Hird, Diana Dors, Eric Sykes, Liz Fraser and Ronnies Barker and Corbett, this marvelous slice of nostalgia is a must own for the comedy fan in your life and the perfect Christmas gift.
“I’d like to now introduce you to this man. He’s a singer and he plays an instrument. Some people say he’s a virt-uoso, but personally I don’t care what he does when he’s out on stage.”
