This film is a delight to watch and I have given it 4 stars. Arthur is the latest offering from Luc Besson (Fifth Element, Leon) and is typically creative, with a well thought out and engrossing storyline.
Although this is a children’s film, universal certificate, there is also plenty in there for adults to enjoy, and taking your kids to see this certainly won’t be boring. The graphics are breathtaking, and worked into a clever mix of computer animation and live-action, which is so seamless in places that it is difficult to tell where one starts and the other ends.
The voice acting is very good as you would expect from the host of stars involved, including Mia Farrow, Iggy Pop and Lou Reed.
Arthur is the sequel to the film Arthur and The Invisibles, however if you watch it without first watching the original (as I did) it doesn’t really seem to make too much difference, it’s still fun nevertheless.
One of the very few disappointments with this release is the lack of special features, our disc only included a trailer, no making of featurettes or cast interviews, and these would have added to the experience.
That said, all in all Arthur is a highly entertaining film, recommended for anyone with kids, suitable for the whole family and a great way to spend an afternoon in together.
