5 stars for this feature length adventure with Shaun and the flock.
Shaun The Sheep: The Movie is brought to us by Aardman (Chicken Run, Wallace and Gromit). Written and directed by Mark Burton (Madagascar, The Curse of the Were-Rabbit) and Richard Starzak (Canimals), this is the first feature film starring everybody’s favourite sheep, Shaun.
Shaun (Justin Fletcher – Tweenies) and the rest of the flock are growing tired of the daily grind on Mossy Bottom Farm and come up with an ingenious plan to allow themselves a day off. However, as is often the way, things don’t go exactly to plan and due to a mishap involving Bitzer (John Sparkes – Peppa Pig), The Farmer (John Sparkes) and a caravan, a relaxing day off becomes a mad dash to the big city.
As Shaun and the rest of the flock quickly discover, the big city is no place for little sheep to be running around on their own and they soon find themselves on the run from the evil animal warden Trumper (Omid Djalili – The Mummy, Gladiator), who has made it his mission in life to capture any and all stray animals in the city.
The farmer is suffering from amnesia and has taken up a career as a hairdresser and it is up to Shaun, Timmy, and the rest of the crew to help him recover his memory and get him back to the farm where he belongs.
In order to evade capture, our intrepid flock are forced to create elaborate disguises in order to hide in plain sight and the results are quite hilarious. With the help of their new found friend Slip (Tim Hands – World War Z), an orphan dog who knows the streets, they embark on a great adventure to get their lives back on track and everyone safely back home to the farm.
I was a little sceptical as to whether a feature length episode of Shaun the Sheep would really work, but it does, very well. The story is engaging and fun and the ideas are just bonkers, typical Shaun. The sets are also much more impressive than usual, and with the sheep rampaging through the city, mayhem was always inevitable.
This is a must own, and will totally delight children and adults alike, perfect for the many followers and fans of Shaun the Sheep.
Shaun The Sheep: The Movie is available to buy on DVD, Blu-ray and Digital from 01st June 2015.
