Hello my name is James Bushe (Predator Dark Ages) and I am the Director and Producer on the feature film “Cannibals & Carpet Fitters’ which has just launched it’s Kickstarter campaign. I am running the campaign along with Richard Lee O’Donnell, (He Who Dares) who is the Writer, Producer and also plays the character of Dean.
Our film is British horror/comedy based on our award winning short film of the same name (where it screened in LA, Cannes, New York, Chicago and went on to win the ‘Dead Certs’ best horror short film award at the Leeds International Film Festival back in November 2014). It has also been repeatedly shown on NottsTV. Other than receiving some great reviews and feedback, one thing we kept getting asked was that it needed to be a feature film! Luckily that was always the intention and we had already written the script. The short was our way of giving people a little taste of what we want to bring to the feature film. Of course we were only able to hint at a lot of the things we have planned due to its tight budget and time. So for the feature you can expect more cannibals, more carpet fitters, more laughs and of course more gore!
Our film tells the story of a group of carpet fitters who are sent on a job to an old Country house in the middle of nowhere. However they soon discover it’s a trap set up by the savage, cannibalistic family, The Hannings. The carpet fitters are forced to fight for their lives or risk ending up being the evenings dinner. Unfortunately they are not quite your typical heroes!
We’ve been fans of horror movies pretty much all our lives, especially the tone and feel set by the films of the 80s. We’ve always enjoyed the stories where the horror merges with other genres, for example like action or comedy. Films like Evil Dead 2, Shaun of the Dead, Dog Soldiers and the Cottage. And Cannibals & Carpet Fitters will fit right in. Plus we’ve all seen enough zombies/vampires/possessed people too. It’s time for something a little different. It’s time for the cannibals! We want to create something that will take you guys on a ride that you will will want to experience again, not just relying on a trick or scare that once seen leaves little to return to. It’s a film where we want the audience to root for our carpet fitters (normal people, not heroes) but also fear for them, unsure who will survive. Trust us the feature has a healthy body count!
This brings us to now. We have just launched our kickstarter campaign to help with some of the initial finance we need to get the film rolling. We’ve already begun attaching some very talented cast and crew to help make this film the best it can be. We’re lucky enough to have so far attached Meg Foster (Masters of the Universe, They Live, Rob Zombie’s upcoming horror ’31’) and Ian Whyte (The Predator from AVP, Game of Thrones, the Engineer in Prometheus etc) in some of our key roles, with a few more roles still to be filled. Within 24 hours of launching our campaign we became a ‘project we love’ from kickstarter and have already got some great feedback regarding our pitch video (it works well if you also watch the short film – available on the campaign page). We really need to make the push with this as with kickstarter it is all or nothing and we have a long way to go so every little helps! People also don’t need to worry about any money getting taken now either; that doesn’t happen until the campaign has finished and then only if successful. Unlike indiegogo where the money is taken the minute you pledge.
As a thank you for any donations we’ve created a collection of exclusive perks, from signed scripts, Blu-rays & DVDs, to invitations to the film screening and even the opportunity to appear in the film or come on board as a producer! There are plenty of different perks available for people to check out on our campaign page and get involved. Plus every backer will be kept updated with exclusive behind the scenes photos & videos plus news on how we’re doing. We may add more rewards as the Kickstarter campaign unfolds. There will also be some awesome stretch goals if we hit our initial target.
If people want to know more then they can follow the project via our social pages below where they can connect with the team, join discussions and keep up to date all the latest news from the movie first!
