Filicide in the Wild West.
Director Tim Sutton (Memphis, Dark Night) directs his first feature that he hasn’t written. The job of writing went to first time writer Greg Johnson, who paints a very dark picture of the wild West in the mid 1800s. The Last Son feels like you are watching something that is all wrong. Dark and dirty, and maybe that is its appeal.
The Last Son starts with a damning report on an ex-army hunter who was cursed by a Cheyenne chief that he will die at the hands of one of his offspring, and Isaac LeMay (Sam Worthington, Avatar, Terminator Salvation) has a lot of offspring.
Isaac is obsessed with foiling the curse and has been murdering his offspring with extreme prejudice, and he puts a notch in his ivory handled colt 45. Rumours of this killer have spread across the West, and Isaac is not welcome in a lot of places as he hunts down those he believes would put an end to him.
The woman that had twins by Isaac is Anna (Heather Graham, Behaving Badly, The Hangover Part III) a prostitute who doesn’t want to tell him where her only son now is, for that Isaac cuts off her thumb. Her son Cal (Colson Baker, The Dirt, Captive State) isn’t about to just let his father put an end to him so he and his friend Patty (Alex Meraz, The Twilight Saga: New Moon, The Twilight Saga: Eclipse) set about removing a Gatling gun from the army. They use the Gatling gun to rob a bank, slaughtering loads of innocent people.
Another woman that he has encountered is Clare (Kendra Alaura, Utopia Planitia (TV Series)) some sixteen years ago and the product of that encounter is Megan (Emily Marie Palmer, Ithaca, Grand Isle) a gentle child that doesn’t know anything about Isaac. This all changes when she sees Isaac kills the man she calls father.
The theft of the Gatling gun comes to the attention of Solomon (Thomas Jane, Deep Blue Sea, Dreamcatcher) a man that was raised by the Cheyenne, and he knows how to track a man.
All the players are on the field of combat now. Their paths will all cross, and it will be deadly.
