4 stars, brilliantly compelling continuation of the story.

The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon Season 2 The Book of Carol is a 2024 spin off from the popular The Walking Dead franchise, created by David Zabel.

This post-apocalyptic American TV Series continues on directly from the end of Season 1 so it is highly recommended to familiarise yourself with that before watching this one.

It is available on Blu-ray, DVD and Digital from 16th December 2024, courtesy of Acorn Media International.

“Everyone here has a place, if they choose to seek it out. I hope you’ll find yours here too.”

Still in France and now at the stronghold of Union de L’Espoir, The Nest (a.k.a. St Michael’s Mount) Daryl Dixon (Norman Reedus – Blade II, The Boondock Saints) is training Laurent (Louis Puech Scigliuzzi) in the fine art of killing walkers. However, leader of The Nest, Losang (Joel de la Fuente – Atrabilious) feels that Daryl has outstayed his welcome and is only a distraction from Laurent fulfilling his destiny. Isabelle (Clémence Poésy – In Bruges, Tenet) reassures him, but he is missing his friends back in the Commonwealth and finding it hard to reconcile his feelings for this new group of people.

Meanwhile, Carol (Melissa McBride – The Mist, Living Proof) is heading out to look for him. Having found his bike, she gets a lead using her usual no nonsense approach and has soon conned grieving pilot Ash (Manish Dayal – Rise, Holidate) into flying her to France, no mean feat from America.

Back at The Nest, it is learned that Fallou (Eriq Ebouaney – Kingdom of Heaven, Hitman) and Emile (Tristan Zanchi – Dangerous Liaisons) have been captured by Pouvoir. This leads to fears that their leader Genet (Anne Charrier – The Astronaut) will be able to find the location of their base and launch an offensive. There is also some doubt as to whether any of them really have Laurent’s best interests at heart. It’s a mighty interesting time for a reunion.

“I keep thinking about all the people I left behind. Wondering if they’re still thinking about me…”

The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon – The Book of Carol is an excellent continuation of this new storyline. It’s also a bit easier to watch since we mostly got over the French Zombie hilarity and can now concentrate on what is actually going on. Walking Dead fans everywhere will rejoice as we see our favourite characters reunited in this most unlikely of places. They make a great team, like ham and cheese, or steak and kidney, only with more bickering.

We learn a little more about the characters too and some of the backstories are very interesting and quite surprising.

It’s nail biting stuff, keeping you on the edge of your seat, constantly wondering what will happen next. It’s great to see how for the most part the zombie killing is incidental to them now, just a minor inconvenience. With new and ever scarier varieties of the Walkers appearing all the time, we can’t wait to see what the next series brings. A must own for all fans of the franchise.

“All the bodies are outside the perimeter now. I was curious, about you. It’s not an excuse. I just thought if I knew you better maybe we could become friends.”
