The Future is Doomed.

First time feature director Agata Alexander brings us a grim tale of the near-future of the human race. Warning is a collection of short interwoven tales that doesn’t paint a pleasant future, as some well-known faces take part in this inaugural venture. With some interesting ideas this Sci-fi should keep the hardest fan satisfied.

Dave (Thomas Jane, Deep Blue Sea, Dreamcatcher, The Expanse (TV Series)) isn’t having the best of days, he has the job of fixing a malfunctioning satellite, all on his own. It doesn’t help when he says that a robot should do the job, only to be told that his training cost $400,000 and a robot costs $40 million. You do the Maths. That is bad enough, now his day is going to go bad as the satellite is hit by an electrical discharge and Dave is sent out into the black with his onboard computer Eva.

The planets surface has also being plagued by lightning and other electrical disturbances during the relentless storms, but life must go on and Brian (Tomasz Kot, Bikini Blue, Cold War) is trying to sell his robot butler Charlie (Rupert Everett, My Best Friend’s Wedding, The Happy Prince), however the robot’s apparent age and misdemeanour puts customers off.

In the next section we see that people have turned to God (James D’Arcy, Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World, Dunkirk), a very different type of God, one that is always present for you. To answer your questions, give you an inspirational pep talk and chastise you for your sins. But when an update fails to load properly, Claire (Alice Eve, Star Trek Into Darkness, Men in Black 3) is put all out of shape.

There are darker sides to this near-future as VR and memories can be combined, this puts a strain on Brian and Anna’s relationship. Also, what would you do for love when you can live forever? Whatever happens, whatever skin you are in, Dave will have the best view in the Solar system.

Warnings is a good collection of Sci-Fi short stories all brought together nicely and paints on the dystopia with a thick brush.

There is a bit of dystopia for everyone.
